Together with professor Trevor Harris, his partner since 1985, Hennu Kjisik has won over thirty prizes and awards in national and international architectural and urban planning competitions. Their work has been widely published in professional journals and appeared in exhibitions, including the Biennale in Venice in 2004 and 2006. In 2000 Mr Kjisik received the Finnish State Award for Artists.

Mr Kjisik is active in the field of research of health care facilities as a member of the Helsinki School of Architecture research unit SOTERA. His doctoral thesis 'The Power of Architecture - Towards Better Hospital Buildings' was published in October 2009. He has wide experience of teaching development and culture oriented issues at Helsinki University of Technology, and acting as visiting lecturer, critic, and studio tutor at numerous architecture and design education institutes in Europe, Africa, the Far East and Oceania. Since 2006 he has acted as the external thesis examiner at Strathclyde University in Glasgow.

After working in the 1980s for UNESCO in Senegal, Mr Kjisik also has solid experience in development cooperation, particullarly health and education projects in Africa and Asia, through several short-term assignments with a variety of financing institutions. He has been a member of numerous architectural juries and has had professional commissions and assignments in nearly 30 countries.
